Exercise IRON SPEAR, taking place in Latvia’s Ādaži training area from 8 to 11 May 2022, will demonstrate NATO firepower and interoperability. 15 teams from 7 NATO nations will participate in a competition featuring both main battle tanks and infantry fighting vehicles. Ex IRON SPEAR also includes day and night live-fire demonstrations. The Distinguished Visitor Day (DV Day) for the exercise will take place on May 11 at the Ādaži military base.

The NATO enhanced Forward Presence Battle Group (eFP BG) Latvia is conducting the exercise along with Allies from the multinational eFP BG in Lithuania, as well as the Latvian Land Forces Mechanized Infantry Brigade. The teams competing in Ex IRON SPEAR will be from Germany Italy, Latvia, Norway, Poland, Slovakia, and Spain, with support from the eFP “Framework Nation” of Canada.

The goal of the exercise is to achieve NATO integration and demonstrate the unity of effort of our eFP BGs. The exercise will strengthen our mobility, force projection, and cooperation throughout the Baltic States and Poland, with a strong focus on interoperability – the cornerstones of NATO collective defence and deterrence against any potential aggression.
