“Solar Eclipse 2026” Exercises to Improve Combat Support Capabilities
From March 23 to April 2, the “Ādaži” military training ground and adjacent territories in Saulkrasti, Sigulda and Ropaži regions will host the “Solar Eclipse 2026” military training exercise organized by the Land Forces Mechanized Infantry Brigade with the aim of improving the mutual cooperation of artillery, mortar and anti-tank units so that they can effectively support the execution of the brigade’s tasks.
The main tasks of the exercise are to improve the skills of artillery and anti-tank units, strengthen mutual cooperation and improve the ability to identify targets with unmanned aerial vehicles. At the same time, the training will train the supply and logistics of National Armed Forces units in various conditions.
The military exercise “Solar Eclipse 2026” will involve soldiers and national guardsmen from the Land Forces Mechanized Infantry Brigade, the 1st Riga Brigade, the 2nd Vidzeme Brigade and the 3rd Latgale Brigade of the National Guard, as well as allies from the NATO Multinational Brigade Latvia.
Historically, the exercise “Solar Eclipse” is organized by the Land Forces Mechanized Infantry Brigade, and this year it is being held for the sixth time. The translation of the name of the exercise from English is “solar eclipse” and during it, the units train the mutual cooperation of artillery units to strengthen the country's national defense and NATO collective security.
During the training from March 27 to April 2, artillery live fire will take place at the military training ground “Ādaži”, which may cause temporary increased noise. Shooting exercises are also planned during the dark hours of the day from March 24 to 31.
During the military training, temporary restrictions on road traffic and the movement of military equipment on public roads in the vicinity of the military training ground “Ādaži” and on the route Saulkrasti – Ādaži – Sigulda – Ropaži – Lielvārde are possible.
The Land Forces Mechanized Infantry Brigade calls on residents to be understanding of the ongoing activities and temporary traffic restrictions on public roads around the Ādaži training ground.
