Possible Threat in Latvian Airspace

09.05.2026
Information prepared by
Communications Department of Information Analysis and Management Directorate

The National Armed Forces inform that there may be a possible threat in Latvian airspace in the currently declared areas of Rēzekne, Ludza, Balvi, and Alūksne municipalities.

NATO Baltic Air Policing mission fighter jets have been activated

The National Armed Forces, together with NATO Allies, continuously monitor the airspace to ensure the capability to respond immediately to potential threats. The National Armed Forces have reinforced air defence capabilities along the eastern border by deploying additional units.

As russia’s aggression against Ukraine continues, similar incidents involving foreign unmanned aerial vehicles entering or approaching Latvian airspace may reoccur.

Notice to Residents

Seek shelter indoors and close all windows and doors. If you observe a low-flying, suspicious, or dangerous object, do not approach it and call 112 immediately. The public will be informed once the threat has ended.
