Latvia Participates in Joint Expeditionary Force Activity LION PROTECTOR 26
From 3 August to 12 October, the international military exercise LION PROTECTOR 26, organised by the Joint Expeditionary Force (JEF), takes place across Northern Europe, the North Atlantic and the Baltic Sea region. During the exercise, JEF participating nations enhance their ability to respond rapidly and in a coordinated manner to security challenges, strengthen mutual cooperation, and improve their readiness for joint action.
In Latvia, during LION PROTECTOR 26, the Latvian National Armed Forces, in cooperation with the JEF, ensured the safe escort of vessels transporting Allied military equipment through Latvia's territorial waters, their safe entry into port, as well as the unloading of military equipment and its onward movement to designated deployment locations. The reception of Allied forces and military equipment was an important component of the exercise, providing an opportunity to refine Host Nation Support procedures, strengthen military mobility capabilities, and enhance cooperation among JEF participating nations.
During LION PROTECTOR 26, JEF participating nations conduct coordinated activities across the maritime, air and land domains, from the Arctic to the Baltic Sea. The exercise complements NATO's vigilance and deterrence measures while strengthening participating nations' ability to rapidly deploy forces when required and respond in a coordinated manner to changes in the security environment.
The Joint Expeditionary Force is a UK-led cooperation initiative comprising ten Northern European nations that complements NATO's collective defence and deterrence measures. JEF participating nations regularly conduct joint exercises to enhance interoperability, readiness and their ability to cooperate across a range of security scenarios.
