Brigadier General Imants Ziediņš started his military service in National Armed Forces in 1992.

During his service in the National Armed Forces, he has filled various positions - from a Company Commander, a Chief of Staff of a Training Center to a Chief of the Operational Planning Department of the NAF Joint HQ. He obtained his military education at the Far East Higher Military Command School (1987-1991) and at the Baltic Defense College - the Joint Command and General Staff Course (2005-2006) as well as the Higher Command Studies Course (2016). He has regularly improved his knowledge in various national and international courses.

He gained international operations experience while performing the duties of the Latvian contingent commander in Afghanistan in 2012.

In 2011, Brigadier General Imants Ziediņš was awarded with the Latvian State Award - Order of Viesturs.
