Multinational Division North (MND N) was conducting exercise KNIGHT LION 22 from 16 to 25 November 2022 in Adazi military base, Latvia. This is one of the preparatory exercises for the exercise GRIFFIN LIGHTNING 2023 that gives many nations and multinational units the chance to train together in their respective roles.

GRIFFIN LIGHTNING strives to improve the readiness and to enhance the NATO interoperability based on common use of doctrines, tactics, procedures and functional services, ensuring that NATO and Partner Nations can operate together effectively to keep our nations safe.

During peacetime, the MND N is manned by regulars but during exercises reservists are called up to train together. This year, more than 14 nations are represented on exercise KNIGHT LION, among them many reserve officers and non-commissioned officers. Reserve personnel at MND N mainly comes from Denmark, Latvia, Estonia and Canada.

Commander of Multinational Division North Major General Flemming Mathiasen says: “Reserves are playing a very important role in manning the headquarters of the Multinational Division North and conducting exercise KNIGHT LION, as well as sharing experience and promoting interoperability and cooperation among participating personnel and nations”.

MND N is an integral part of NATO force structure. The division was established to demonstrate NATO´s will and ability to defend Baltic States and secure peace and stability in the region.
