International Military Exercises "BALTOPS 24" to Take Place in the Baltic Sea

From June 7 to June 20, the Baltic Sea region will host the large-scale annual international military exercises "BALTOPS 24."
"BALTOPS 24" is one of the most significant exercises in Northern Europe, aiming to continue enhancing the cooperation and operational compatibility of various force types and military units. During the joint exercises, participants will demonstrate their readiness to ensure collective defense in the Baltic region, thereby strengthening regional security and deterrence.
The exercises will involve 20 NATO member states, more than 50 ships, over 85 aircraft, and approximately 9,000 soldiers. Participating countries include the United States, Belgium, Denmark, France, Greece, Estonia, Italy, Latvia, the United Kingdom, Lithuania, Norway, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Finland, Spain, Turkey, Germany, and Sweden.
The National Armed Forces will be represented in these exercises by the Navy, including the Diver Team, the ship A-53 “Virsaitis” and “A-90 Varonis,” the Special Operations Command, and the National Guard. The Air Force, Training and Doctrine Command, Military Police, Logistics Command, and the Mechanized Infantry Brigade of the Land Forces will support the exercises.
As part of the "BALTOPS 24" exercises, starting from June 7, various tactical operations will be practiced in Latvian territorial waters and in the responsibility area of the National Guard's 4th Kurzeme Brigade, including the Kurzeme coast, involving allied ships, aircraft, and military equipment. This will include an amphibious landing operation. During the active phase of the land operations, an amphibious landing operation will take place in Vārve Parish, Ventspils Municipality, while live-fire exercises will be conducted in the Baltic Sea near the Šķēde military range.
"BALTOPS" is an annual exercise that clearly demonstrates NATO's commitment to ensuring peace and security in the region by enhancing its ability to respond quickly to any threats. Participating countries in "BALTOPS" have been training together to improve the execution of defense operations in the Baltic region for the 53rd time. Latvia started participating in the "BALTOPS" exercises in 1996. This year marks the 20th anniversary of Latvia becoming a member of NATO, the world's most powerful military alliance, and the Alliance celebrates its 75th anniversary this year.
