During the “Latvian Shield 25” exercise, Spanish and Air Force air defense units will improve cooperation at the Riga Hydroelectric Power Plant
From May 26 to 28, military exercises "Latvian Shield 25," organized by the Latvian National Armed Forces Air Force, will take place in the areas of Ķegums, Salaspils, and Ķekava.
The exercises will focus on strengthening cooperation between the Latvian and other NATO countries armed forces to improve the ability to jointly respond to any air defense challenges.
For the first time, outside the military base "Lielvārde," Spanish units will deploy medium-range air defense systems. The Air Forces Air Defense Division will also participate, bringing short-range air defense systems, such as the RBS-70.
Spains air defense unit has been stationed at the "Lielvārde" military base since June 2022.
These military exercises, conducted outside military bases or training grounds, demonstrate Latvias readiness and ability to defend its territory. They also help raise public awareness of national defense, showcasing NATO's role in strengthening Latvia's security.
Attention Residents!
During the exercises, military vehicles will move along public roads in the Vidzeme region. Participants will also observe low-altitude aircraft and drone flights over the Daugava River, from the Ķegums HPP to the Riga HPP.
